If a specific page on an Internet site doesn't load for some reason or in case a link is not functioning, the site visitor shall see an error page with a generic message. The page shall have nothing in common with the rest of the website, that may make the visitor leave the site. A solution in cases like this is a feature offered by some hosting providers - the option to set up your own custom error pages that will have exactly the same layout as your site and that may contain any text or images which you want dependent upon the specific error. There are four well-known errors that could occur and they involve the following so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your web browser sends a bad request to the hosting server and it cannot be processed; 401, if you are supposed to log in to see some webpage, but you haven't done so yet; 403, if you don't have a permission to see a particular page; and 404, in case a link that you have clicked leads to a file that does not exist. In any of these situations, site visitors shall be able to see your personalized content instead of a generic error page.

Custom Error Pages in Cloud Hosting

You will be able to set up personalized error pages for all of your Internet sites easily when you use any of our Linux cloud packages. This could be done through the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, provided with all accounts and once you go there, you could set your custom made pages independently for any domain or subdomain. You need to upload the files to your account ahead of time and enter the links to them through the process. This function may be de-activated anytime and the options you shall be able to to select from are a standard page from our system or a default Apache server page. Custom error pages may be set with an .htaccess file as well. The file should be put in the domain or subdomain folder and it should contain some system code and links to the pages. If you are not tech-savvy, you may copy the whole content you'll need for the file from our Help section.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you host your Internet sites in a semi-dedicated server account from us, you can set tailor-made error pages for any of them with ease using our in-house developed Hepsia hosting CP. With a couple of clicks inside the Hosted Domains section, you are able to change the default setting from a system page to a tailor-made one for each of the four error types. All you need to do is supply a link to each and every file you have uploaded before that and then save the change. If necessary, you shall be able to revert this modification whenever you want and in exactly the same way. If you'd like, you may use an .htaccess file too. It has to be created/uploaded inside the domain or subdomain folder linked to the website whose error pages you intend to modify and the content for such a file can be found in our Help article for this matter.
