In accordance with the policy adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the contact info a domain name is registered with must be valid and up to date at all times. In addition, this information is freely available on WHOIS sites and while this may not be a problem for organizations, it may not be very convenient for individuals, since anybody can view their names and their personal email and postal addresses, particularly in an age when identity fraud is not that rare. This is the reason why domain registrars have introduced a service that hides the details of their customers without editing them. The service is referred to as Whois Privacy Protection. If it is active, people will see the details of the registrar, not those of the domain owner, if they perform a WHOIS lookup. The Whois Privacy Protection service is supported by all generic domain extensions, but it is still not possible to hide your info with some country-code extensions.

Whois Privacy Protection in Cloud Hosting

If you order a cloud hosting package from us, you’ll be able to activate Whois Privacy Protection for any of your domain names in case their extensions support this option. You can register or transfer a domain name and add Whois Privacy Protection during the registration procedure or you can activate the service for any of your domains at any time afterwards via the Hepsia hosting Control Panel. The procedure is incredibly easy – once you log in, you’ll have to visit the Registered Domains section where you’ll see a list of all the domain names that you have registered with our company. For each of them you’ll see an “Whois Privacy Protection” button, which will tell you if the service is active or not. By clicking on it, you can either Whois Privacy Protect the domain, or you can deactivate the service if it is currently active.

Whois Privacy Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you would like to conceal the contact details for your domain name and you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you will be able to activate our Whois Privacy Protection service either during the account order process or at any moment afterwards via your Hepsia Control Panel. This service is optional and can be enabled with a few clicks from the Registered Domains section of the Control Panel where all the domains that you’ve registered with us will be listed alphabetically. You can activate Whois Privacy Protection for any of the extensions that support this service by simply clicking the “Whois Privacy Protection” button on the right-hand side of each domain name. In the same fashion, you can also renew the service or turn it off – if you wish to transfer a domain name to another registrar and you need the real email associated with the domain name to be visible.
